Huntsville Fastest Growing Alabama City
HUNTSVILLE, AL (February 24, 2011) - Mayor Tommy Battle issued the following statement on the 2010 U.S. Census numbers released today (February 24, 2011):
"Huntsville is proud to again be the driving force behind the growth of Madison County and our metro area. The numbers show Huntsville has grown more than any other city in the state of Alabama.
These numbers show what we already know: Huntsville is a thriving and growing city. The investment we have made in infrastructure and smart growth continues to pay dividends.
So much of our roads and infrastructure is dependent on federal funding and much of that comes from the Census numbers. We made every effort to have an accurate count and our residents deserve credit for stepping up and being counted."
U.S. Census Bureau numbers showed Huntsville saw a larger population increase than any other city in the state. Huntsville saw its population increase by nearly 22,000 (21,889). Hoover, Alabama, was Huntsville's closest competition with growth at just under 19,000 (18,877).
